History and Use: From the late 1880s the sulky became the most popular horse drawn vehicle in Australia. They were initially developed in Sydney from the American road cart, which had a short lived period of popularity in the United States. This vehicle has a moulded motor seat and curved dash which became fashionable in the early years of the 20th Century. (Bolton Collection)
