History and use
This shirt relates to the story of a Queensland person who became a Brisbane legend.

George Kiprios, otherwise known as Rock ’n’ Roll George or just George, was a Greek Australian man who was passionate about cruising in his car. He is remembered for cruising the streets of Brisbane’s inner city in his FX 48-215 Holden car with rock and roll music blaring out of the windows for all to hear. From the 1950s until the early 2000s, George was like clockwork reaching the same places at the same time, wearing the same outfits in the same car, every day. He has been remembered by generations of people who lived and grew up in Brisbane.

The polo shirt was made by a not-for-profit Brisbane community group called ‘Friends of Rock ‘N’ Roll George’ who’s aim is to pay tribute to the memory of George Kiprios. The group organises events and encourages discussion around George’s story. The group organised the Inaugural Rock ‘N’ Roll George Memorial Cruise in August 2012; an event which was part of the annual Greazefest Kustom Kulture Festival in Brisbane. This event involved the donor wearing the polo shirt while driving a replica FX Holden car (similar to George’s car) leading a cruise of around 40 classic and custom cars from the Rocklea Showgrounds to the Royal Mail Hotel in Goodna where a rock’ n’ roll dance followed. Many people who knew George personally or remembered his presence on the streets of Brisbane attended in his memory.
