History and use
This set of doll's clothes are associated with a papier mache doll in the Queensland Museum Collection. The doll originally sported hand knitted, fine woollen clothing. This set is a reproduction set of clothes for the doll using the same 1930s knitting pattern used to make the originals. These new doll's clothes were given to the donor as a gift, which were later donated to Queensland Museum along with the doll.
The doll, and these clothes, are an example of the kind of papier mache products made by volunteers during the Second World War. It is also an example of the ways Queensland women adapted to the wartime restriction on toys and dolls by making items for their children.
