History and use
This scale model represents the Tensile Testing Machine manufactured by J Buckton & Co, Leeds around 1937 which is located on the ground floor of the Chemistry Laboratory, opened on 1 June 1939, at Ipswich Railway Workshops.

This machine is specifically mentioned in the listing of the Workshops site on the Queensland Heritage Register as being an example of the technology used by Queensland Railways. This model was made at the Workshops and presented to Mr Vince Preston on the occasion of his retirement from Queensland Railways in 1987.
