History and use
This object is a long service certificate awarded to Janette Patricia Lobwein from the Queensland Railway Ambulance Corps. The certificate represented an acknowledgement of the untiring efforts of an employee over the course of eleven years in the practise and principles of ‘First Aid’. Members of the Queensland Railway Ambulance Corps who were recognised with this achievement were also enrolled as a ‘Life Member’ of the organisation.
This tradition began in 1920 when a recommendation was forwarded to the Commissioner for Railways. It was proposed that the committee of Queensland Railways Ambulance Corps should issue a framed Long Service and Life Membership certificate to those who, in their opinion, merited such an honour after at least eleven years of service.
This item demonstrates the practice of acknowledging service in the Queensland Raiwaysl Ambulance Corp, and the emphasis placed on the Corp as part of Queensland Railway’s operation, which began in 1892.
