Description
A cream coloured booklet featuring maroon coloured print of the front cover. The booklet was printed for the unveiling of the World War One memorial at the Ipswich Railway Workshops on Saturday 27th September 1919. The booklet was handed out as an offical souvenir for those in attendance and featured the names of the men on the monument as well as an order of proceedings for the ceremony.

History and use
This programme was an official souvenir for the 1919 unveiling of the World War 1 Memorial at the Ipswich Railway Workshops. The idea of the memorial was conceived in 1915 by employees of the Workshops. Over the following four years they raised £1400 to build the monument, the money coming from donations from the workers themselves. The memorial marked the contribution of employees of the Railway Workshops in the Great War. More than 300 men from The Workshops enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force and are listed on the memorial’s plaque. Thirty-one did not return.
The memorial was designed by Queensland Railways architect, Vincent Price. Andrew Petrie of Brisbane made the base and column and London sculptors, John Whitehead and Sons, created the soldier figure. Ornate bronze plates, made by Charles Handford of Brisbane, were attached to the side of the memorial to list the names. The plaques also feature the Queensland Railways badge and coat of arms.
The opening of the World War 1 Memorial at the Ipswich Railway Workshops was an important event in Ipswich. The event included an afternoon tea served in the Workers Dining Hall, the site was decorated with bunting naming the important battlefields of Europe and the middle east, and was reported to have been attended by over 2000 people. The then Governor of Queensland, Major Sir Hamilton Goold-Adams, unveiled the monument. He was attended by his wife who received a posy from the children of one of the Railway Workshops employees who had lost his life in battle at Polygon Wood.
