The model is a Compagnie des chemins de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée (PLM) 231A 4-6-2 Pacific Steam Locomotive. The model is a 6100 series, number 6101 with the tender numbered 28-48. PLM was absorbed into the SNCF in 1938.
Aster made this model in an edition of 800 sets in 1977.

The models were collected by Mr Marsden Williams, who was born, raised and spent his life in the Wollongong area. Mr Williams was a business man who was renowned for philanthropy, he was an intensely private man, who nevertheless was well connected across the Australian business world. His 40 year fascination for model railways reflected his own interest in precision engineering, and his financial success allowed him to pursue his interest to a remarkable extent.
