History and use
This plate was produced by Royal Copenhagen Porcelain to commemorate Papua New Guinea’s independence in 1975. The design on the plate was created by Royal Copenhagen artist Sven Vestergaard, and features a map of Papua New Guinea with national emblems and other iconic images.

Before independence Papua New Guinea had been ruled by three separate colonial powers: Britain, Germany and Australia. The plate is one example of how Papua New Guinea’s independence was marked by nations around the world.
