History and use
A stainless steel wagon builder's plate which were affixed to new rolling stock manufactured at Ipswich Railway Workshops.

Following the end of steam locomotive maintenance in 1969 and the phasing out of wooden rolling stock, producing steel wagons became a main focus at the Ipswich Railway Workshops into the 1990s.
