History and use
A black and white photograph showing railway workshop fitters making final adjustments before testing of the aircraft engine and propeller for Ross and Keith Smith's World War I Vickers Vimy bomber they had just flown out from England. The aircraft suffered engine failure at Charleville so Queensland Railways removed the engine and propeller and sent them to the Ipswich Railway Workshops for the engine to be repaired and a new propeller fabricated. The engine and propeller were set up on a wooden frame in front of the Powerhouse to enable testing to be carried out. A large crowd of local people have gathered behind a barrier to view proceedings. The railway drawing office can be seen on the hill behind and the workshops dining room can be seen on the right.
