Description
Carriage odometer used to calculate the distance travelled by carriages or wagons. They were often used by surveyors, but also by companies such as Cobb & Co interested in the distances travelled on the road.

History and use
Carriage odometers were used by surveyors and transport operators to calculate distances travelled. The carriage odometer attached to a wheel spoke counted the number of wheel revolutions. Distance travelled equalled this number by the wheel circumference.
