History and use
This illuminated certificate was presented to Percy Adsett in 1919 by the Hamilton municipality following his return from overseas war service. Official and unofficial awards coexisted to recognise returned service personnel as well as those who contributed at home. Local communities were often the first to organise and respond to both mournful and joyous events. Adsett was one of the original officers of the Ninth Infantry Battalion of the AIF, and served with them at Gallipoli in 1915. Adsett was wounded at Pozieres on 3 September 1916.
