History and use
This photograph is part of a photographic album owned by Charles Joseph Pound (b.1866 – d.1946), one of Australia’s earliest scientists to investigate veterinary and medical diseases in Queensland during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Most of the photographs in the album were taken by C.J. Pound as part of his professional work. The album contains 157 images with some relating to Pound’s personal life but mostly to his work and travels around Queensland. The album is a rich photographic record of Queensland’s agricultural industry and landscape from around 1894-1910. The photographs also cover a range of other themes including early transport, sport, horse racing events, street scenes, buildings, the Great Barrier Reef, flooding, ships, rivers and the control of rabbits. The album also contains a number of early photographs of Aboriginal Missions and camps.
