History and use
This packsaddle canteen was found in far western Queensland or Northern Territory. The canteen would have been one of a pair carried on a horse, on either side of a packsaddle. The canteen carried 5 gallons (22.7 litres). Canteens were necessary when travelling in regions where water sorces were far apart.
