Description
Roller bearing hub and axle end from a buggy or other light horse-drawn vehicle. Timkins were buggy spring and component manufacturers. Henry Timkin invented the roller bearing for buggies, carts and wagons late in the nineteenth century, but the technology was soon adopted for railway and motor car wheels.

History and use
Henry Timkin (and Co) manufactured buggies in St Louis Missouri USA from the 1860s. He invented a springing system for buggies that was widel produced unr license. Timkin developed roller bearingings for carriage wheels in the late 1890s. He formed the Timkin Roller Bearing Co with his sons in 1899. In 1901 the company moved to Canton Ohio. The tapered roller is now the standard for motor vehicle and railway wheel bearings.
