History and use
A gold rail pass issued by Queensland Railways to His Honour Judge B J Boulton of the District Court of Queensland 1988 - 2004.

Gold Passes were issued by Queensland Railways to parliamentarians, members of the judiciary and other selected VIPs granting free rail travel whenever travel by rail was required. These medallion style gold passes were issued up until about 1990 when a change was made to a gold coloured "credit card" style plastic card.

Born in Townsville in 1934, His Honour Judge Brian James Boulton attended the Townsville Christian Brothers' School. He later became a teacher for Catholic Education and taught at Christian Brothers' schools in Sydney and the ACT. In 1968 he became the Head of Nudgee College in Brisbane. He had gained an Arts Degree from the University of Sydney in 1963 and was awarded a Master of Laws from the University of Queensland in 1975. He was admitted to the bar at the end of 1975.

He was appointed to the District Court in 1988 and retired in 2004.
