History and use
Gold Passes were issued by Queensland Railways to parliamentarians, members of the judiciary and other selected VIPs granting free rail travel whenever travel by rail was required. These medallion style gold passes were issued up until about 1990 when a change was made to a gold coloured "credit card" style plastic card. This particular gold pass was issued to His Honour Neil F McLauchlan QC when he was Master of the Supreme Court of Queensland (1988 - 1989).

After his time in the Supreme Court, McLauchlan was appointed a judge to the District Court in 1989. He retired in 2007.
