History and use
A gold rail pass issued by Queensland Railways to the Honourable Mr Justice Bruce H McPherson, of the Queensland Court of Appeal 1991 - 2006.

Gold Passes were issued by Queensland Railways to parliamentarians, members of the judiciary and other selected VIPs granting free rail travel whenever travel by rail was required. These medallion style gold passes were issued up until about 1990 when a change was made to a gold coloured "credit card" style plastic card.

Bruce Harvey McPherson was born in South Africa in 1936. He attended High School and the University of Natal in South Africa and then studied at Trinity Hall, Cambridge where he obtained Bachelor degrees in Arts and Laws. He moved to Brisbane in 1960 accepting a lecturing position at the University of Queensland. In 1963 he was admitted as a barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland.

In 1982 McPherson was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court and in 1988 was awarded a Commander of the Order of the British Empire honour. In 1990 he was appointed a Judge of Appeal of the High Court of the Solomon Islands. In 1991 he was appointed the inaugural Judge of the Queensland Court of Appeal where he stayed until his retirement in 2006. He died in 2013.
