History and use
A gold rail pass issued by Queensland Railways to His Honour Judge N A Skoien, judge of the Districts Courts 1988 - 2008.

Gold Passes were issued by Queensland Railways to parliamentarians, members of the judiciary and other selected VIPs granting free rail travel whenever travel by rail was required. These medallion style gold passes were issued up until about 1990 when a change was made to a gold coloured "credit card" style plastic card.

His Honour Nelson Anthony 'Tony' Skoien was born in Toowoomba in 1938. He went to school at Cambooya State School and later Toowoomba Grammar before attending the University of Queensland where he gained Degrees in Arts (1958) and Laws (1961). He was admitted to the bar in 1962.

He was appointed to the District Court in 1982, later becoming the Deputy Chairman of the District Courts in 1988. In 1993 he became the Senior Judge of the District Courts. He retired in 2008 and died in 2012.
