History and use
Double callipers. These are used by woodturners including wheelwrights to capture two different outside diameters. Double callipers would be useful when turning wheel hubs on a lathe. Both the narrower end size and the belly diameter could be held for producing multiple wheels.
The item was donated by wheelwright Mike Hendrikson from Kariong NSW and formerly of Sydney, and was probably acquired around Sydney.
