History and use
Flakes are stone tools which have been struck from a larger piece of stone. Flakes can be identified by a number of diagnostic features including bulb of percussion, a platform, negative flake scars and ripples. Flakes can also be further worked (retouched) to create specifically shaped tools for different tasks including cutting, scraping and piercing.
