Cigarette card. The card has a picture of a red coach with yellow wheels and black curtains. There is text on the reverse side. ('THE RED JACKET COACH'') The card was one of a series of 50 on coaching issued by tobacco company WD & HO Wills of Bristol England for its New Zealand subsiduary. This series of cards all dealt with coaches and coaching history including the operations of Cobb & Co. Cigarette cards were intended to be collected, thereby promoting the consumption of the producer's brand of cigarettes.

Reverse side text. <COACHES AND COACHING DAYS/ A SERIES OF 50/ 33/ The Red Jacket Coach of the '80s/ The Red Jacket, named from its colour, was built at Christchurch by A.G.Howland for the North Road in the '60s. The inside seats ran lengthwise and the roof seats (four) crosswise. After the railway was opened to Kaiapoi, it was put on the West Coast Road, but the vehicle was converted from a bus coach to a stage coach. An extra seat placed on the roof enabled the coach to seat twenty passengers./W.D. & H.O. WILLS/ Bristol & London>

This card is from a series of 50 dealing with coaches and coaching history, including Cobb & Co, intended for the New Zealand market. Cobb & Co operated coaches in New Zealand as well as Australia.
