History and use
This commemorative Coalport plate was purchased during the 1982 XII Commonwealth Games by Hungarian immigrants, Mr and Mrs Szalai. This plate is an example of fine English chinaware made by well-known British fine porcelain manufacturer, Coalport China, now part of the Wedgwood group. The plate, portraying the 1982 Brisbane city skyline with the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Fountain in the foreground, was one of a number of souvenir items commissioned by the Commonwealth Games organizers.Encircling the plate are images of the ten official Commonwealth Games sporting competitions. This object's relevance to the broader collection of 1982 Commonwealth Games material lies in its ability to depict the architecture and landmarks of Brisbane at the time of the 1982 Commonwealth Games.
