Description
A 1925 Caterpillar crawler tractor model thirty with a four cylinder petrol engine. Painted grey with red lever handles, red logo and some red trim. Unpainted metal tread. It has an individually mounted cylinder on the left hand side of the driver's seat. It has a black seat. It has a crank handle attached to the front of the engine held in place with a brown leather strap. "THIRTY" is written vertically in red on both sides of the engine towards the front of the crawler tractor.

History and use
This model Thirty was manufactured in 1925, the first year of operation for the Caterpillar Tractor company. This crawler tractor is painted grey with red trim, the official livery of the Caterpillar Tractor company from 1925 to 1931. It is not known where Bert Thiess obtained this tractor.
This was one of the first crawler tractors produced by the newly founded Caterpillar Tractor company (1925) after the C.L. Best Tractor Company merged with the HOLT Manufacturing Company. This model was a rebadged version of the C.L. Best model 30 that had been manufactured by the C.L. Best Tractor Company since 1921. The Thirty design was based on the Best 60 but providing approximately half the power. The Thirty was a popular tractor in the marketplace as it was tough and reliable and was therefore chosen to become one of the first Catepillar offerings. The Caterpillar Thirty was manufactured from 1925 to 1932 and there were approximately 23,830 made in total.
