History and use
This model Thirty Five crawler tractor was manufactured in 1933 and has a diesel powered engine, making it one of the first Caterpillar crawler tractors with a Caterpillar diesel engine. It was collected by Bert Thiess but where he obtained it is unknown. There is no record that this type of machine was used by the Thiess Bros company
In 1932 Caterpillar introduced the Thirty Five tractor which replaced the model Thirty. By all accounts, they were considered to be smart looking machines. It was offered in a gasoline and diesel version. This was only the second diesel offering from Caterpillar. The first was a diesel version of the model Sixty.
The Diesel Thirty Five was powered by a Cat D6100, 3 cylinder, 5 1/4 x 8 inch bore and stroke diesel engine. 1,999 diesel models manufactured. The original price was US$2400.
