History and use
This model Twenty Eight 4F series crawler tractor was manufactured in 1934.

The Caterpillar model Twenty Eight was an evolution of the earlier Twenty Five model. This model had a larger engine and produced more horsepower but it looked very similar to the later models of the Twenty Five. The Twenty Eight was one of the last gasoline powered tractors made by Caterpillar. It had a Cat 4 3/16 x 5 1/2 inch bore and stroke gasoline engine. The tractor was considered a good design but did not sell well. The smaller number sold can in part be attributed to the steady move by customers to diesel tractors rather than gasoline tractors. This model started production in 1933. Only 1,171 units were manufactured when production ended in 1935
