Description
This is a 1921 Holt 2 Ton crawler tractor with a four cylinder petrol engine. It is painted grey with black logo, black levers and a brown seat with a grey metal frame. There is a crank handle attached to the front of the engine held in place with a brown leather strap. "CATERPILLAR" is cast into the front of the engine. "HOLT" has been stencil cut vertically on both sides of the engine towards the front of the crawler tractor.

History and use
This HOLT model 2-Ton T35 crawler tractor was manufactured between 1921 and 1924, with around 1350 machines sold.This is the first series of the model 2-Ton produced by the HOLT Manufacturing Company. This tractor is the oldest crawler tractor in the collection
It has a tub seat and a wooden pulley on the back which appears to be non standard. The crawler is painted grey with black trim and has a 'wavy' Caterpillar logo. Caterpillar was the trademark used by HOLT for its crawler tractors.
The T35 featured a Holt M35 four cylinder engine, with 4x5.5 inch bore and stroke. The engine producted 15 drawbar horsepower and 25 belt horsepower with running at it s rated speed of 1000 rpm.
The M35 engines were supplied to HOLT by Hall Scott who had previously made railcar, automobile and aeroplane engines. Hall Scott transferred many of the high-tech features from their aeroplane engines into their automotive engines. These included an overhead camshaft and valves, hemispherical and cross-flow cylinder heads and aluminium pistons and crankcases.
