The crawler has an overhead camshaft and a four cylinder engine. This was the last tractor to have cast iron tracks. That is, the rail and the shoe were cast in one pieceThe crawler is painted grey with black trim and has a 'wavy' Caterpillar logo, the original logo design adopted by the Caterpillar company. While grey with red trim were the official Caterpillar colours (pre-1932), there is evidence that grey with black trim was produced at the factory, but it is unknown if this was an official variation or by customer request.
The Caterpillar 2 Ton was one of the first crawler tractors produced by the newly founded Caterpillar Tractor Company after the C. L. Best Tractor Company and the Holt Manufacturing Company merged. The 2 Ton was the smallest machine offered in the new Caterpillar product line and was longest running of the HOLT designs to remain in production. This model was produced from 1924-1928 with 8,989 machines built
