History and use
This tractor is a model RD6 2H series manufactured in 1935. Caterpillar introduced its very popular diesel powered RD6 model series in 1935. The RD6 series 5E was essentially a rebadged Diesel Forty, the name change was introduced in 1935 to comply with Caterpillar’s new machine identification system. The 2H series was introduced later in 1935. It had a more powerful 3 cylinder Cat D6600 55 horsepower engine with five track wheels. It was offered in a 56inch standard and 74inch wide gauge track option. The RD6 was considered a standout all-round performer. It was a favourite on the jobsite, farm or forest, many thousands of this type were manufactured. In production from 1935 to 1941 as the 2H series, the RD6 lost the “RD” from its name about 1938.The initial cost of the model was US$3,600
