History and use
This tractor is a model D8 1H series manufactured in 1937. The D8 was one of the most reliable large scale crawler tractors on the market at the time. While competing crawler tractors may have been more powerful, the D8 was one of the biggest sellers due to its dependability. It was a massive size and built for brute strength. The D8 became the symbol of heavy construction worldwide. The D8 was first produced in 1935 (badged the RD8) and would become one of the most famous designs and would symbolise the Caterpillar tractor.

The D8 (1H) series was manufactured from 1937 to 1941, when it was replaced with the D8 (8R) series. It in turn was replaced by the D8 (2U) series in 1945. According to Caterpillar records, just under 10,000 of the 1H series were manufactured up until 1941 when the 8R series replaced it. RD8 1H series 9999 produced from 1935 to 1941 with 108 hp. RD8 8R series 9999 produced from 1940 to 1945 with 131 hp
