History and use
This trophy is associated with the Ipswich Railway Cricket Club. The trophy was awarded Raymond Argus for being the best all-rounder in the 1939-40 season for the A Grade side. He took 67 wickets, a new club record, in that season.

Argus consistently bowled large hauls of wickets that season including: 5/27 against Booval, 4/33 1st innings and 5/20 2nd innings against Past Grammars, 8/42 against Alberts and 7/32 against Goodna.

Although primarily a bowler, that season Argus also scored a rapid century while batting against Past Grammars scoring 112 runs in 44 minutes. The local paper, The Queensland Times, described his batting as 'cyclonic'. Only three centuries were scored in the whole competition by all teams and Argus scored one of them.

Raymond Robert Argus became a Coach Builder at the Ipswich Railway Workshops in 1938 and was selected in the Ipswich Railway Cricket Club in the same year.

Thee 1939-1940 was hugely successful season for the Ipswich Railway Cricket Club with the club winning 'the double'. Both the A Grade and Reserve Grade sides won premierships that season, a first in the history of the club.

The Ipswich Railway Cricket Club was established in 1922.
