History and use
This ‘hints’ booklets was used by Girl Guides in the 1960s. It was issued under Agreement with the Girl Guides Association, originally published in London. This copy was printed in 1954.
The booklet was a useful tool to both Guides and rangers, outlining the necessary information each guide needed to obtain their badges. There was a ‘hints’ booklet available for every kind of badge available to Guides. The booklets were illustrated with drawings and diagrams, and outlined the syllabus for each badge and the associated tests each guide needed to complete.
The items were originally owned by Lois Brown (nee Cripps) when she was a Girl Guide in Townsville in the 1960s. The items were donated to the Museum of Tropical Queensland in 2012.
