This tie was a key element of the Girl Guides uniform in the 1960s. It was also directly associated with activities conducted by Guides at the time; the ties were used to hold badges, but also for first aid, for splints, slings or to carry things. It was always worn to a length 3-fingers up from the belt, with a promise badge positioned halfway up the tie. The tie would have been worn with a navy skirt and blue Girl Guides shirt.
The items were originally owned by Lois Brown (nee Cripps) when she was a Girl Guide in Townsville in the 1960s. The items were donated to the Museum of Tropical Queensland in 2012.
