History and use
This is a Brownie Second badge. Each group of Brownies was called a Six, and each Six was led by a Sixer, with a Second who acted as deputy. This kind of badge – with a yellow braided stripe stitched onto a rectangular piece of material – was the type of badge worn by a Second. A Sixer would have worn a similar badge but with two braided stripes.
The items were originally owned by Lois Brown (nee Cripps) when she was a Girl Guide in Townsville in the 1960s. The items were donated to the Museum of Tropical Queensland in 2012.
