History and use
A “tails” suit held in the Queensland Museum collection completed the formal 1930s look with these cotton gloves. Wearing gloves came into fashion as a way to protect your hands, separating one from the working class who often had rough hands from manual labour. Since then gloves have continued to be aligned with either professional protective wear or upper-class fashion, until they fell out of favour in the second half of the 20th century.
