Description
A sepia coloured portrait photograph of a steam locomotive tilted onto its side and derailed from the tracks. In the foreground a man with a wide-brim hat and singlet can be seen while on the other side of the locomotive sleepers have been used to prop up the smokebox to prevent the locomotive tilting any further. The locomotive is a New South Wales Government Railways 36 Class and the derailment occured on the standard gauge line near Fairfield Station in Brisbane.

History and use
A series of eight small photographs of a locomotive derailment near Fairfield Station in Brisbane in 1936. The locomotive was a NSWGR 36 Class traveling to South Brisbane Station along the standard gauge line to commence the Brisbane - Sydney Express. No one was injured in the accident and the event drew quite an interested crowd.
