The photograph has been framed to include the locomotive's smokebox and boiler while in the background a large advertising board can be seen. The locomotive is a New South Wales Government Railways 36 Class and the derailment occured on the standard gauge line near Fairfield Station in Brisbane.

A series of eight small photographs of a locomotive derailment near Fairfield Station in Brisbane in 1936. The locomotive was a NSWGR 36 Class traveling to South Brisbane Station along the standard gauge line to commence the Brisbane - Sydney Express. No one was injured in the accident and the event drew quite an interested crowd.
