History and use
C17 class locomotives were one of the most enduring and successful designs used by Queensland Railways. The design was an upgrade from the C16 class locomotives. C17s were built by various firms and manufacturers from 1920 up until to 1953, with numerous improvements and modifications adopted during the years in between.
No.722 was built by Walkers Limited of Maryborough in 1922 and began service with Queensland Railways in March 1923.
In its later life No.722 operated extensively throughout the Central Division and was based at times in Rockhampton (1949, 1952, 1954, 1956, 1960), Emerald (1951, 1955, 1957) and Alpha (1959, 1961).The locomotive was written off in April 1961.
