History and use
This builder's plate is from a Plasser South Africa Plassermatic Tamper Machine VKR-04. The vehicle was purchased by Queensland Railways in 1965.
Queensland Railways purchased a large amount of track maintenance machinery from Plasser South Africa, Plasser-Thereur (Austria) and Plasser Australia beginning in the 1960s. Machines purchased included MMA Class electromatic tampers and crib & shoulder compactor machines, MMB Class ballast regulators, MMD Class track jacks and rail threaders, MME Class scissor lifts and MMY Class rail planers, spolier transfer cars and flash butt welders.
