History and use
Goninan & Co entered the railway industry in Queensland when they were awarded a contract to build 13 2600 Class diesel locomotives for Queensland Railways in 1982. The firm acquired a facility at Bohle in Townsville to build the locomotives locally. Goninan delivered the locomotives to QR between 1983-84.
Goninan also built wagons in their Townsville workshops during the 1990s and early 2000s for Queensland Rail including VSHLB/VSHSB and VSAS/VSAL coal wagons and OSZY acid tank wagons.
The company also produced 50 2800 class diesel locomotives for Queensland Rail which were delivered between 1995 - 1998.
