History and use
In 1997, a joint venture between Walkers and ADtranz was awarded a contract by the Queensland Government to build 12 three car electric sets for the Brisbane suburban network. By this time, Walkers had become a subsidiary of Evans Deakin. ADtranz was jointely owned by the Swedish-Swiss group ABB and German company, Daimler Benz Transportation.
Walkers/ADtranz supplied SMUs, IMUs and the Cairns tilt train vehicles to Queensland Rail in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
