History and use
In the mid 1920s, Evans, Deakin & Company expanded their operations by purchasing land at Rocklea to undertake railway rolling stock fabrications. The firm quickly became a major supplier of rolling stock to the Queensland Railway Department.
Later in the life of the company, it was renamed Evans Deakin Industries (EDI). EDI purchased Walkers Limited of Maryborough in the 1980s and later Clyde Engineering in the 1990s. EDI was purchased by Downer and the company was renamed Downer EDI in 2001.
This builder's plate is from one of 350 VSA coal wagons ordered by Queensland Rail from Evans Deakin Industries in 1998. The wagons were delivered between 1998 and 2000 in batches.
