Narrow groove runs (casting flash) runs along circumference, not quite centre of ball.
History and use
These lead balls were designed to be shot from the smooth bore of a musket. This particular musket ball features marks made during it's formation including a series of ripples along the exterior where the lead cooled as it was poured and a scar at one end evidencing where excess lead was trimmed to form the final shape.
