History and use
This crest decorated the front of a lectern used at Roma Street Railway station during special events involving the luxury tourist train - the Great South Pacific Express (GSPE). The GSPE was introduced to Queensland Railways in 1997 as a luxury tourist train to travel between Cairns and Brisbane and also Sydney and Melbourne following a bogie exchange at Acacia Ridge.

The service was halted following the 9/11 terrorism attack on the World Trade Centre in New York. The international tourism market was severely affected by this event and by the end of 2003 the GSPE service had been cancelled and the luxury carriages were mothballed.
