History and use
This Suburban Guard's Box was used by Mr W. Buckel, in the course of his duties on the Brisbane suburban train network. Mr Buckel was a train guard for almost 25 years on Queensland Railways and before that a railway employee in the United Kingdom - overall he had a railway career of almost 50 years in the two countries.
This particular guard's box was made by a train guard based at Mayne Depot who manufactured the boxes for sale to co-workers. It was later fitted with a shoulder strap, not usually fitted to guard's boxes in Queensland, by Mr Buckel.
