This t-shirt is Rugby League ‘State of Origin’ merchandise commemorating the 25th anniversary of the sporting series in 2005.
The State of Origin concept was first conceived from a three-match series against New South Wales played after May 1908. On the 8 June 1980, the inaugural Rugby League ‘State of Origin’ series began and in 2005 celebrated the 25th year anniversary.
The colour of the Queensland jersey, maroon, is so closely associated with the team that they have been nicknamed "The Maroons." No doubt this is one of the reasons that the colour was proclaimed as Queensland’s official colour by the State Government in 2003 and was selected as a Queensland Icon by the National Trust Queensland in 2006.
