History and use
This model of the stockyards at Waroo Station, Port Curtis, was made by Frederick Archibald Blackman (1835-1906) and displayed in the Queensland Court of the Colonial and Indian Exhibition, London, in 1886.

Upon the model's return to Queensland in 1987, Mr Blackman donated it to Queensland Museum where it was on almost continuous display until 1996. The model was extremely popular with the public and could be classed as one of the museum's icons.

Frederick Blackman settled at Waroo Station in 1853. After semi-retirement in Brisbane Mr. Blackman was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the QLD Museum in 1891. Mr. Blackman was the founder of the QLD Stock Breeders and Graziers Association, wrote several short stories dealing with pioneer life and was also an inventor. Amongst his inventions was the sturdy 'Viper' Hypodermic Syringe for cattle, a lever bail, a branding bail, a pneumatic pump, several gate fasteners and a type of hearing aid. Additionally he was a keen natural historian and collected many specimens.
