History and use
This bark cloth from Santa Cruz in the Solomon Islands became a part of Queensland Museum's Collections in 1899. Not much is known about use and manufacture of bark cloth (lepau) in Santa Cruz, as its production slowed significantly since 1930.

Lepau cloths can be worn like an apron, or on the head.

This particular lepau is featured in the "Paperskin: Bark Cloth of the Pacific" exhibition travelling around Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand in 2010.
