Description
Awl, of bone. This cream coloured bone awl is made from the middle section of a long bone from animal, possibly a metatarsal from a domestic mammalian animal. Both ends have been worked to u-shaped points, with one end highly polished following long term use.

History and use
Bone awls are tools which have been created from a wide range of animal bones. They take a variety of forms and were used for many purposes, inlcuding working soft materials like hides or fabric and baskery. Polish from wear may appear at the point from contact with material and along the shaft from handling.
