History and use
In the sculptural traditions of Solomon Islands, the human figure is often represented in abstract form. However, in parts of Western Solomon Islands and Bougainville, artists create highly naturaltistic human carvings. This male figure holds a model wicker shield and axe. The carving dates to the early 20th Century and was acquired by Queensland Museum in 1978.
